Harris County District Attorney Mike Anderson passed away last night.

The 57-year old – who was just sworn into office in January – announced in May he had been diagnosed with cancer.  No other details about his cancer were released.

Anderson spent 12 years as a criminal court judge, following his 16 years as a prosecutor.  He came out of retirement to challenge Pat Lykos in the Republican primary last year, and went on to win the November election.

The Texas District & County Attorneys Association posted the news on Twitter, adding "Our prayers are with his wife & kids & the entire Harris Co DA family."
