Steps outlined for securing FEMA help

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says the quickest way for Harvey-impacted residents to register for FEMA assistance is by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Those unable to access the internet can call 1-800-621-3362. People with a speech disability or hearing loss who use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service should call call 1-800-621-3362.

There's also a FEMA app available for Apple, Android and Blackberry mobile devices.

The following will be necessary to complete an application:

  • Social Security number
  • Address where the damage occurred
  • Current mailing address
  • Current telephone number
  • Insurance information
  • Total annual household income
  • The routing and account numbers for the checking or savings account to which FEMA can directly transfer disaster-assistance funds.
  • A description of your disaster-caused damage and losses

More information can be found at www.fema.gov/individual-disaster-assistance.
