Education Board, Land Commish Disagree on Funding

Republicans on the State Board of Education are disagreeing with Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush over a school funding issue.

Bush is the head of the School Land Board, which recently routed 600-million-dollars directly to schools instead of through the education board. As a result of the unprecedented move, education board members say they'll have to reduce the board's contributions to school funding.

At issue is the question of how best to manage the state's school fund, which is the largest in the country.
