Serial rapist suspect caught and arrested

Houston Police have charged and arrested Jorge Arturo Mar Wednesday, who they believe is a serial rapist.

HPD Captain David Angelo said on October first, HPD received three matching DNA hits and are checking it to see if it's a match to Mar.

Six crimes are Houston Police cases, one is in Harris County and one is in Montgomery County.

“After developing Mr. Mar as a suspect, our investigators were able to reach out to one of our victims, where she positively identified him as her attacker for that April 2017 aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery,” said Angelo. “We believe this individual is responsible for at least eight sexual assaults beginning in April of 2017 to August of 2018.”

However, there was a nine month gap from August 2017 to May of 2018, so police are concerned there are more victims who need to come forward and report if they were sexually assaulted.

HPD Lieutenant Jucinda Gunter said all the victims say the suspect was a Hispanic male in his twenties who they met on dating apps or on social media.

“The suspect lured the victims into his car after they agreed to meet him. He did this on the first meeting. It’s not like they were in any kind of dating relationship,” said Gunter. “First time that they agreed to meet them, he lured them into his car, drove them to a remote location where he sexually assaulted them in his vehicle.”

The suspect's photo is not being released to the public.
