Folks in your neighborhood may be looking for part-time work right now. Day 26 of the partial government shutdown, makes this the longest partial government shutdown in U.S. history.
The closure continues to negatively affect local families out of work... for now. Folks at NASA, the Coast Guard, and TSA are only a few of the agencies with federal employee workers who aren't being paid at the moment.
The reality is ... an astronaut out in space, in the International Space Station isn't being paid. Terminal B at IAH Airport remains closed due to the shutdown. These are just a couple of examples.
Now, a few local restaurants are increasing efforts to help out those federal workers who working sans pay or furloughed.
Killen's BBQ on Broadway in Pearland is making family meal packs available for those impacted by the partial government shutdown. The pack has the best Killen's BBQ it has to offer, with sausage and brisket, and sides like potato salad and beans. It's FREE and will be offered to unpaid workers starting this Friday and every Friday as the partial government shutdown continues. Just show your valid federal employee ID to take advantage.
Bistro Provence on Memorial Drive is offering a free lunch on weekdays for the duration.
Chick-fil-A at Deerbrook Mall in Humble is offering a free sandwich on Thursday.
Fuzzy's Pizza on South Mason Road in Katy is offering furloughed employees a 50-percent discount.
Pipeline Pizza on Spencer Hwy in Pasadena, is giving FREE pizza to folks affected by the partial government shutdown EVERY DAY as the partial shutdown continues. Just show them your federal worker ID or TSA badge to enjoy a free meal.
D’Amico Italian Market Café is also offering furloughed federal workers, and a guest, free plates of spaghetti and meat balls for lunch or dinner, weekdays Monday - Thursday as the partial shutdown continues. Non-alcoholic drinks are also free for federal workers. The only rule: One time per person and dine-in only and making a reservation is suggested. Just present proof of furlough with your government ID.
