Do Not Travel Advisory for Mexican State

It's Memorial Day Weekend --- time for a quick trip to Mexico, right? mmmm...maybe not.

The U.S. Department of State has updated travel warnings for Mexican states where tourists are more vulnerable to crime. The Mexican state of Tamaulipas - which borders south Texas - is on the list of Do Not Travel states because of high crime and possible kidnapping. Violent crime, such as murder, armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, extortion, and sexual assault, is common in the state.

Tamaulipas is the home state for lots of Texas tourist's favorite spots, like Matamoras and Nuevo Laredo. But --- go to your neighbor's pool this year. Not as exotic, but you'll live to see another!
