It took over 415 volunteers spending thousands of hours to make over 3,000 Alvin ISD school kids happy about going back to the classroom. They each received a new backpack filled with new school supplies so they are all ready to go!
Operation Backpack is a group effort between the Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA and lots of local groups and businesses. This year First Presbyterian Church of Alvin ran the logistics and organization of this huge event.
A Back to School Health Fair was offered when the backpacks were being distributed and free immunizations and dental check ups were offered - along with free hair cuts!
