Is Fort Bend County no longer solidly Republican?

Fort Bend County has historically been a solid Republican stronghold. But some are questioning that now that State Representative Rick Miller won't run for re-election in 2020.

Miller isn't alone. Pete Olson is retiring, and the Republican almost lost in 2018. KP George, another Democrat, became County Judge. Political analyst Vlad Davidiuk doesn't think this is just the result of changing demographics.

"Republicans grew complacent over the years, and got very comfortable with assuming that they would win because they have an R next to their name," Davidiuk explained.

He says the same thing has happened in other Texas counties. But Fort Bend Republicans can do something about it

"They have access to the ability to speak to potential voters in a way that's that they understand. They still have a chance to address those concerns with some smart tactics," Davidiuk explained.

Another Fort Bend Republican, Sheriff Troy Nehls, is set to announce tomorrow whether he will run for Olson's seat in Congress.
