UPDATE: Two dead after NW Houston explosion this morning

UPDATE: HPD Chief Art Acevedo announced that two people have died as a result of this explosion, and that a multi-agency investigation is underway. Acevedo says this is not a case of terrorism, and they do not know how this happened, but confirmed the two deaths at about 9:30 this morning.

ORIGINAL: Residents living in west Houston were woken up shortly before 4:30 this morning by what appears to be a loud explosion of a building. One person has been taken to the hospital. One person is unaccounted for.

The explosion occurred at Watson Valve Services on Gessner. The person unaccounted for is apparently an employee.

Windows were rattled, and people felt their homes shake.

HFD has Hazmat is on the scene, and while no evacuations have been ordered, firefighters are going door to door, suggesting people leave the area.

Two schools in Cy Fair ISD are CLOSED today as a result of this explosion; Bane Elementary and Dean Middle School.
