Number of COVID-19 Cases In Harris County Sheriff’s Office Reaches 12

Two Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies received positive COVID-19 test results on Monday, bringing the agency’s total number of confirmed cases among staff to twelve.

Both of the most recent positive cases are male deputies – one in his late 20s and the other in his late 40s -- assigned to patrol.

One of the two most recent cases is a deputy is in his late 40s, who works in patrol. His last day on duty was March 21. He is now quarantined at home. The second recent case is a male sergeant in his early 30s, who works in the 1200 Baker Street jail facility. His last day on duty was March 22. He is now quarantined at home.

  • A sergeant in his early 70s
  • A male deputy in his mid-50s
  • A male deputy in his late 20s
  • A female deputy in her late 20s
  • A male deputy in his early 3 0s
  • A male civilian clerk employee in his late 20s
  • A male deputy in his late 60s
  • A female deputy in her late 20s

There are currently 130 Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies, detention officers and support staff on quarantine for possible COVID-19 exposure. Two of these employees are currently in the hospital. Twenty-three previously quarantined employees have now been cleared to return to duty. Nearly 50 Sheriff’s Office employees have been tested, but are still awaiting results. Fourteen employees have received negative test results.

As of Monday, the total number of Harris County Jail inmates testing positive for COVID-19 remained at one.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with Harris County Public Health to identify co-workers, inmates, and members of the public who may have had close contact with the diagnosed employees so they can take necessary precautions, including quarantine and testing for those with symptoms.
