Texas Finding Breakthrough In Alzheimer's Treatment

Texas researchers may have found a way to slow the damaging effects of Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Gabriel de Erausquin at the University of Texas Health System says in a clinical trial last November 5 surgeons put a pacemaker in the brain of a San Antonio woman in her 70's for deep stimulation. He says early trials show that the device stops memory loss in its tracks. The surgery is minimally invasive.

A future goal is to implant a brain pacemaker as soon as a patient starts showing Alzheimer's symptoms, in order to stop the disease from progressing.
