Galveston County COVID-19 Update

Galveston County Health District reports 8 new positive COVID-19 cases in Galveston County residents. This brings the county’s case total to 740.

Friday’s report also includes 10 new recoveries, bringing that total to 458.

Sadly, we report one additional death.

A male, age range 81-90, passed away May 17. He had pre-existing medical conditions.

Of the county’s 740 cases, 266 are tied to long-term care facilities. This count includes residents and employees. Cities that have seen a large number of cases tied to long-term care facilities are noted on the case update.

Twenty-eight of the 32 deaths reported to date by the health district are related to long-term care facilities in Galveston County.

To date, 26,631 Galveston County residents have been tested, accounting for 7 percent of the county’s population.

Residents are encouraged to contact their primary care physician for COVID-19 testing if they have come in contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive or are experiencing symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing or at least two of the following symptoms: fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell.
