Ray's Review: Annabelle Creation

Annabelle Creation

Annabelle is back in the scary prequel Annabelle Creation. This time around we get to learn Annabelle's true original story and why this particular doll is completed possessed. The film wastes no time in turning up the creep factor to eleven and keeping it there for the duration of the film. This is a perfect addition to this group of films ( The Conjuring 1 & 2, Annabelle, and the upcoming films The Conjuring 3 and The Nun)

This film is directed by Lights Out Director David F. Sandberg and he brings us a fantastic cast to bring the horror flick to life. The movie stars Stephanie Sigman as Sister Charlotte a young nun who brings a group of young orphan girls to live with a Husband and Wife on their farm ten years after their own young daughter dies in a tragic accident. Life seems pretty simple until one of the young girls, Janice (Talitha Bateman) is drawn to the daughter's old bedroom. Once she opens the door she unleashes an evil this couple had spent years trying to keep hidden and locked away.

This is easily one of my favorite horror films this year. From beginning to end it will keep you in a tense ball in your seat as you work your way through this dark tale. Something about the skill and detail that David Sanberg brings to his movies that are just so effective at creeping his audiences out. Watching this film you wouldn't even realize this was only his second major motion picture to direct. He clearly has a talent for this in the same breath that James Wan (Director of The Conjuring) has as well. The movie is packed with creepy moments outside of just cheesy jumps scares and there is a lot of attention to details including an homage to the original Annabelle doll, which is actually an old Raggedy Ann doll, in the film.  Another thing that makes this film stand out is the fact that usually in horror films there are certain scenes where you feel like the characters should be safe, usually in the daylight or outside of where the initial haunts take place. One thing I can say without giving too much away is that this movie totally bucks that stereotypes and changes the game when it does.

This is just a fun horror film and one that fans have been excited about for a while now and with good reason. Hollywood has given us the Annabelle movie we wanted and in my opinion, it is even scarier than the first film. The young cast does a fantastic job and really just kills it on screen. One thing I do want to make sure you all know is that like most superhero films you will want to stay until the end of the credits for this one for a special bonus from the movie.

Overall, Annabelle scored an easy A+ from us. it was really all I could ask for from a horror movie. Lots of growing tension and uneasiness? Check. a terrifying force behind it all? Check. A Great story? Check. On point acting from the cast? Check Check. trust me guys, this is a solid film.  Holloween has come early movie lovers!

Do not miss Annabelle Creation when it hits theaters everywhere August 11th!
