LIVE: Florence in Real Time

FEMA is warning people not to let their guard down even though Hurricane Florence was downgraded to a Category 2 storm.  This morning, FEMA Administrator Brock Long said the size of Florence has expanded and "time is running out" for people to evacuate.  Long warned parts of the Carolinas could see days of rain, record flooding and widespread power outages.  Florence is expected to make landfall late tomorrow or Saturday, probably in North Carolina.

The governor of North Carolina says Hurricane Florence "will bring destruction" to his state and the surrounding region.  Roy Cooper warned millions of people will lose power and urged everyone to "heed evacuation orders."  He went on to say that most of the storm deaths will be caused by drownings in floodwaters.
