POLL QUESTION: Officials announce yet another gun buyback

The city of Houston records another murder, just hours after announcing a fourth gun buyback event.

HPD says a man was shot and killed in Houston's East End after an argument over the purchase of shoes. One man has been detained.

The latest gun buyback will be held on June 10th; their fourth buyback in the last year.

"I know someone is going to criticize the program," Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

Doug Griffith of the Houston Police Officers Union says the events simply don't work.

"It's not taking the guns out of criminal hands. They're still getting them,": Griffith told KTRH. "We have to do something besides buybacks."

So what could that something be?

"Let's think outside the box, and start taking care of these issues," Griffith stated.

The city collected 800 guns in the last buyback, in February.
