The 1991 movie "The Rocketeer" snuck by before I could see it in the theaters. I didn't discover it until my days working in Blockbuster Video a few years later, and loved it from the start. Timothy Dalton is my favorite 'James Bond' (hey, he's the one I grew up seeing first) and I remembered him from "Flash Gordon" and liked that character too, so he was like an ambassador for me in to this movie. Jennifer Connelly is stunning in this and her character is a strong and original character and definitely not a cliché damsel in distress. It's such a fun adventure movie with just the right amount of comic book fantasy to make is almost believable that this could happen. The Rocketeer is currently available on Disney+ and it's worth a watch!

An action-packed, if anachronistic, look back at pulp matinee serials, The Rocketeer may ring hollow with viewers expecting more than simple fun and gee-whiz special effects
Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) is a cocky stunt pilot in love with a beautiful actress, Jenny Blake (Jennifer Connelly). When he discovers a jet pack hidden in a biplane, Cliff straps on the rocket, dons a flashy helmet and becomes the high-flying hero known as The Rocketeer. But when Nazis want to use the rocket as a weapon, Cliff must use his alter ego to both protect Jenny from an evil actor (Timothy Dalton) and save the day in this period adventure based on the comic books by Dave Stevens.
