Hypocrisy is common on the American political Left. And sometimes, when their contradictions are running at full blast, reality hits them square in the face (figuratively speaking, of course].
I'll never forget when Hillary Clinton and Lena Dunham both said, on separate occasions, that we should always believe people who claim to be sexually assaulted.
Of course I’m paraphrasing their statements just a bit, but they were quite clear about their thoughts on men accused of sexual assault - it's the whole reason why they were against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos dialing back Obama's Title IX regulations (which eliminated due process on college campus for those accused of sexual assault).
Women like Hillary and Lena claim to be neo-feminists who unwaveringly defend allegedly victimized women, but they must have forgotten their stance on this hot button issue over the weekend. That’s when they took a very different approach to news that their friends had been accused of sexual-predator-like behavior.
Let’s start with Hillary.
On Saturday disgraced politician Hillary Clinton seemed rather eager to defend allegations against her friend Senator Al Franken, a man who was recently the source of extreme controversy when a photo [and more than one allegation] surfaced which suggests he’s a predatory sex monster.
In an interview with ABC Radio, Hillary said since Franken apologized he should be given a second chance, because he reacted the right way to all of this news. Gosh! She’s really shifted her opinion about sexual assault victims, hasn’t she? In reality the Dems just don’t want to let go of Franken. After all, he was a popular comedian turned politican. He’s appealing to young progressives. Or, at least, he was. Most people under 30 probably don’t remember Franken’s days on Saturday Night Live, but Hillary’s doesn’t exactly have her finger on the pulse of the youth. If she did, she’d be President right now.
Hillary seemed right at home defending Al Franken. This is more than likely due to her years of defending Bill's alleged sexual misdoings. Complicity should be her middle name. She’s great at apologizing for rapists. It’s probably her greatest talent.
And now on to actress and pseudo-feminist Lena Dunham.
Murray Miller, the executive producer of HBO's Girls (Lena's now canceled show on the premium cable network), has been accused of sexually assaulting actress Aurora Perrineau, who was underage at the time of the incident.
Lena was quick to defend Miller, saying, "During every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller."
But now she seems to regret that comment.
Lena rolled it back on Sunday when she said, "I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend’s situation as it has transpired behind the scenes over the last few months. I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry."
This happened right at the same time that Zinzi Clemmons, an African-American and former employee of Lena, quit her job as the author of the “Lenny Letter”, Lena Dunham’s weekly political newsletter.
Clemmons accused Lena of “hipster racism”, essentially suggesting she and her friends are open racists who frequently use the n-word for shock value but, since they’re liberals who masquerade as comedic actresses, they get away with it.
And now Lena is apologizing to everyone she upset.
Wow, did I fall asleep and wake up in an alternate universe? Lena Dunham regrets running her mouth and contradicting something she'd previously said?
Imagine that! Lena might be ignorant, naïve, confused, ugly, greasy, and shortsighted [I could go on and on with the adjectives but you get idea], but hey - at least she's not as bad as Hillary [although she probably smells worse].
Good job, Lena! Way to admit to your obvious mistakes [even if you only did so after it turned into a massive international PR nightmare]. I'd Tweet Lena a congratulations for having a change of heart about her hypocritical and contradictory stance on these issues, but she blocked me on Twitter a long time ago for politely correcting her on her outspoken and arrogant political opinions (It’s okay though, I haven't lost any sleep over it).
Anyway, since most liberals don’t have a memory that spans past 15 minutes, it’s a sure fire bet that all this nonsense will be old news before you’ve even finished reading this piece. One has to wonder which rapist the feminist thought leaders of the Left will defend next! Only time will tell.
