Sen Elizabeth Warren Occupies Indian Territory

Senator Elizabeth Warren, Harvard Law School’s infamous “First Woman of Color” tenure track professor and first runner up to the “Ms. USA Whitest Woman of Color” (after narrowly losing to Rachel Dolezal in a sudden death tiebreaker), rejected a request on Sunday that she submit to simple and readily available over the counter DNA analysis of her ethnic heritage to determine the veracity of her longstanding claims of being of Native American ancestry. She met the question head on with a barefaced lie like the averagely educated lawyer she is: “I know who I am. And never used it for anything. Never got any benefit from it anywhere.”

But, like the faux intellectual she has persisted to pretend to be for four decades, she could not let the simple lie lie and doubled down with: “My mother and daddy were born and raised in Oklahoma. My daddy first saw my mother when they were both teenagers. He fell in love with this tall, quiet girl who played the piano. Head over heels. But his family was bitterly opposed to their relationship because she was part Native American. They eventually eloped” And, because every lawyer is entitled to a closing argument, she ended with the summation: “That’s the story that my brothers and I all learned from our mom and our dad, from our grandparents. It’s a part of me and nobody’s going to take that part of me away.”

Thusly, she seemingly Kung Fu’ed the naysayers by forwarding the argument that those who doubt her tall tale of Tim McGraw-esque Indian Outlaw Cherokee heritage and have accused her of cultural appropriation are trying to injure her family and steal their shared heritage. Because, like everyone else in 2018 America, she is a victim and anyone demanding she take ownership of her dishonesty is a bully and a cis-gendered jerk.

Some may think this is much ado about nothing, but I would respond that her lie stole academic positions from a great number of long exploited citizens who she now exploits for political support. And it fully exposes the mockery that is the current absurdist over emphasis on identity politics and race in the rarefied realm of elite academia.

Much like me, Senator Warren took a circuitous route to Harvard that included a pit stop at the University of Houston. She started her undergraduate studies at George Washington University but dropped out after two years to get married to a high school sweetheart. She then completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Houston and later earned her Juris Doctor at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. A decent law school but, by no means, an elite academic institution. Then, after a few years of working from home as a lawyer, she began her circuitous climb to a full professorship at Harvard Law School facilitated by a seemingly innocuous white lie. My journey was similar. University of Houston by way of Louisiana State University. Then an average law school attending part time while working the night shift as a police officer. But I got to Harvard for my Masters of Laws based on my grades, my tests scores, my public service and my unique Libertarian ideology. I earned it.

Unlike your intrepid author who got there despite his pasty pink epidermis, she was hired at Harvard in part because her listing in a legal directory used by law school hiring committees that identified her as a Native American and because she was listed as a “minority faculty member” in her prior employment at the University of Pennsylvania. She was hired as the first woman of color faculty member at the Harvard Law School faculty despite not having the educational credentials to warrant serving as a professor at the most prestigious law school on the planet. Notably and ironically, Professor Warren self described as a white woman in all her employment prior to her unqualified waltz into the Ivy League’s University of Pennsylvania. But she changed her tune to secure a job she was not qualified for by falsely claiming to be Native American. Which sounds like a significant benefit to me.

The reality is that it is not those that question her ethnic bona fides that are the thieves: sticky fingered Senator Warren stole a spot as an academic in the Ivy League set aside for less qualified applicants who overcame historical oppression to seek employment as law school professors. Which, of course, begs the question: should spots be set aside in academia for less qualified prospective professor and student minority applicants? In the 1980’s when students and professors at a Harvard were disproportionately white males: probably.

Does that problem persist today? Certainly not. The under achieving scions of the wealthy have always had access to the Ivy League (Former Presidents Kennedy, Bush 2, and Trump are exceptional examples of this reality) through the privilege of legacy or donable wealth. And now there exists completely different standards for non-privileged white and Asian kids versus Hispanic and African American applicants.

The Boston Globe published an article in August, 2017 declaring that Harvard’s incoming class is majority non-white for the second year in a row. Moreover, a lawsuit filed in 2014 by Asian American students that alleges Harvard and other Ivy League institutions cap the admission of high achieving Asian students to preference other racial minorities is expected to go to trial in a Boston United States District Court this coming summer despite four years of the best efforts of some of this nation’s brightest and most connected legal minds to get the suit thrown out of court. Which, taken collectively, supports the argument that the most prestigious university in America’s incoming class is disproportionately biased against Caucasian and Asian students not born to wealth.

But no one on the Left or the Mainstream Media cares about hardworking poor and middle class Caucasian and Asian students. These students do not inspire a tear jerking, social justice warrior inspiring headline. It does not make the current system any less unfair. And it does not make the anti-hero of this tale any less despicable.

Professor Warren infiltrated the Ivy League as an early adopter of exploitative identity politics by masking herself in the cultural costume of the most disenfranchised, the most oppressed ethnic minority in America. We have a collective national debt to Native Americans that actually persists today. And that megalomaniac added to that collective debt with her selfish and self serving falsehood. I would hope that the people of Massachusetts would wise up and retire her in their next Senatorial contest, but I try not to waste my life on fables and foolish pipe dreams.
