Louisiana Might Let Felons Vote

After years of delay, Louisiana lawmakers are considering giving voting rights to convicted felons on parole or probation.

Baton Rouge Democrat Rep Patricia Smith is proposing the state of Louisiana restore voting rights for felons.   The vote passed in the Louisiana House yesterday 61-39 and now it's heading to the Senate.

The bill allows felons on probation and parole to vote after they've left prison for at least five years. Currently the law allows people to vote once they're off probation or parole.

So what do y'all think?  Should felons be allowed to vote?

Personally, I think if they're still on probation or parole, they should not be allowed to vote.  BUT - if they served their time and finished parole/probation, why not?  They paid their price, right?  Are we not a nation of free people?  Of course, that's not what's being debated.  This is about people who are on parole or probation and recently go out of prison.
