A group of activists in Atlanta are using this year's Super Bowl to remove Confederate war monuments around the nation.
The groups announced a planned for a Feb. 2 rally (on the eve of the football game) to be hosted in the city.
The Southern Poverty Law Center said there are more than 1,700 Confederate symbols and 700 monuments in America. Virginia, Texas and Georgia lead the nation in having the most Confederate symbols.
These sort of protests always confuse me. People who politicize sports competitions, rock concerts, holiday activities and other special events for unrelated reasons rally accomplish the goal of affecting any chance.
Whether you're for or against the war memorials one thing is for sure - nobody who's waiting in traffic to see attend Superbowl related events is going to change their mind about a cause after they witness someone block traffic and detour them from their activities that evening.
Look, slavery was awful, no reasonable person denies that common opinion. But when someone empties out their back account and travels across the country to attend the football game of their lifetime, the last thing they wanna do is be preached to about symbolism and American history. You can't change the past by ripping up an old statue and you won't win any fans for your cause if you prevent normal people from doing something they've been waiting a long time to enjoy.
Good luck, leftists, but this stuff never works.
