McConnell Trolls AOC & It's Pretty Awesome

Ya know, maybe we're not giving Mitch McConnell the credit he deserves. Over the years we've mocked the Senate Majority leader at every turn, but are we being fair?

Mitch McConnell is the reason we got Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court.  He also played a pivotal role in getting us tax reform.

But the turtle-like GOP leader isn't done impressing us yet. He has a new objective: trolling Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Last week AOC pitched her Green New Deal - a very ambitious (and silly) non-binding resolution that would essentially encourage (but not actually require) Americans to stop using airplanes and fossil fuels, and start regulating cow farts.  Again, this a non-binding resolution, so it doesn't really mean anything.

Non-binding resolutions happen from time to time in Congress. You could have a non-binding resolution where lawmakers agree to honor the Superbowl champions or celebrate Earth Day. It doesn't really mean anything. It just makes ya feel good.

Enter Mitch McConnell. McConnell is going to force Democrats to weigh in on the absurd economic overhaul proposal introduced last week by freshman Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey.

Yesterday afternoon at a press conference McConnell announced he would send the Green New Deal measure to the Senate floor for a vote "to see how they feel about the Green New Deal". This is a really clever tactic. It will require his more vulnerable opponents on the Left to officially go on the record as a supporter of the controversial policy (or not a supporter).

Of course the bill won't pass and, even it if it does, it's still a non-binding resolution. It's meaningless. But just imagine how much fun it will be to say, "Democrat Senator X and Congressman X voted yes on regulating cow farts and giving up air travel." It's a pretty brilliant move.

Mitch, I was wrong about you. You're the man.
