During the heydays of the Soviet Union, the Russian media was nothing more than a propaganda machine working to protect the oppressive and absurd policy positions of their nation's rules.
Today, here in the good ol' US of A, we're seeing a similar relationship taking place between our American media and the most progressive of lawmakers.
Take Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal - an insanely absurd policy idea that would eliminate air travel, regulate cow farts, & eradicate fossil fuel usage. It's a crazy idea but it's also a non-binding resolution, which means this is all a buncha hot-air (pun intended).
Even still, the American mainstream media was reluctant to report on some of the most head-scratching aspects of the Green New Deal.
The media has actually been complicit in burying the most radical parts of her deal - and for good reason: moderate and centrist voters would never support it if they knew what was in it.
News organizations like CNN, NBC and CBS buried the now-infamous FAQ document circulated by the Ocasio-Cortez office, which promised a job to “all people of the United States” – even people “unwilling to work” – and it makes the air travel industry nonexistent.
The Democrats who proposed this bill immediately tried to retract the FAQ that went along with their resolution. They were hoping nobody would notice. They were wrong.
The silence from the American media on this disappearing FAQ document is deafening.
Arkansas' Senator Tom Cotton said, "Too many people in the media have been complicit in the Stalin-like or 1984 technique of disappearing it, sending it down the memory hole."
He's right. I don't always agree with Tom Cotton but his analysis of the vanishing Green New Deal FAQ is spot on.
Earlier this week he told Hugh Hewitt during an interview, "It’s pretty remarkable that when these Democrats put out the Green New Deal last week that you had many Democrats running for president leap onto a proposal that was going to confiscate every privately owned vehicle in America within a decade and ban air travel so we could all drive or ride around on high-speed light rail, supposedly powered by unicorn tears, yes."
A laundry list of 2020 Dem POTUS candidates endorsed this bill, including Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, and Kirsten Gillibrand.
Will Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris give-up air travel? That's what AOC is calling for but apparently nobody wants to talk about her bovine-fart policy.
Gee, I wonder why.
