Houston Police Chief Blames NRA & GOP After Thug Kills Cop

A thug in Houston has admitted to killing Sgt. Christopher Brewster Saturday night in Houston's East End, according to court documents.

The thug has a lengthy criminal history that includes burglary, evading arrest, harassment, assault, and criminal mischief - which means he very likely wasn't supposed to legally own a gun.

Even still, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo is blaming the National Rifle Association and prominent members of the Republican party for the incident.

At a press conference on Monday, Acevedo told Republican Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Mitch McConnell, "I don’t want to hear about how much they support law enforcement. I don’t want to hear about how much they care about the sanctity of lives."

He was suggesting that Sgt. Brewster would still be alive if not for the GOP's lack of action on new gun control efforts.

Just so we're clear, the suspect we believe is responsible for this murder has already been convicted of multiple serious crimes. Would more gun laws have prevented him from owning a gun? It doesn't appear that way, according to Houston Police Union President Joe Gamaldi.

But Acevedo says the GOP has failed to support the Violence Against Women Act, which provides funding and grants for domestic abuse programs. He even claimed Republicans don't support this bill because of pressure from the NRA.

Now this is just getting silly. Is Acevedo high? The Violence Against Women Act is already being funded, as Cornyn's office pointed out to the Houston Chronicle yesterday, and there's no proof any sort of change or increased funding for that program would have had any affect on the outcome of the shooting that took Brewster's life.

Acevedo is politicizing the death of a local hero and he's not even making sense while he does so. Don't Democrats care about facts? Or reason? Or common sense? Or waiting until the body gets cold before they try and spew out left wing talking points?

Apparently not.
