Meet 59-yr-old Mohamed Omar Ali, a Somalia native who has been teaching the virtues of Islam in the United States since he came here in 2013.
Omar has been charged with child molestation in Fort Bend County, Texas, and police are concerned because he could have been deported before his alleged crimes occurred.
Omar was arrested last weekend on counts of indecency with a child and one count of sexual assault of a child under the age of fourteen.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls believes Omar found his alleged victims through local mosques where he worked as a teacher of the Islamic faith.
He says Ali should have been deported years ago.
The Islamic Society of Greater Houston issued the following statement:
ISGH leadership takes the safety of our community very seriously and has implemented strict background check measures for all of our employees and any volunteers who work with children.
Ali was jailed on a $150,000 bond.
This is just one more example of our broken immigration system hurting the lives of the innocent.
