Houston Mayor Makes Moves to Cancel Texas GOP Convention

Remember last week when Houston's mayor said he would allow the Texas GOP to hold their convention?

He changed his mind.

Sorry, Republicans, Sly doesn't think you should have your convention.

Dylan McGuinness reports:

Mayor Sylvester Turner on Wednesday said his administration would review its contract with the Texas Republican Party with an eye toward canceling its in-person state convention in downtown Houston, which the city’s top health authority called a “clear and present danger.”
Turner said he has asked city attorneys and Houston First Corp., the public nonprofit that serves as the city’s convention arm, to review the contract with the GOP and cancel it today if they are allowed to do so under the law.
He said Wednesday’s decision was prompted by rising numbers and Dr. David Persse’s alarming letter outlining the danger of moving forward.
