A San Antonio man who was twice accused of beating a victim to death before dismembering his corpse and burning his remains in a barbecue pit was found not guilty on Wednesday.
Gabriel Moreno was accused of murdering Jose Luis Menchaca in 2014 during a violent struggle. Menchaca was purportedly beaten to death with a baseball bat.
This was Moreno's second trial. The first ended with a deadlocked jury in March.
Witnesses claimed Moreno ambushed Menchaca in the back bedroom of a home on Hillwood. The other suspect, Daniel Lopez, was convicted last month and sentenced to life in prison.
A third suspect, Candie Dominguez, pleaded guilty and is currently waiting for sentencing.
