Devout Catholics in in the Philippines take Easter VERY seriously. These people literally reenact Christ's death each year.
We're not talking about props and stage effects here, folks. These people are nailed to wooden crosses in four villages across the country & lots of people participate. Some of them dress up like Romans and use whips to hurt people (all voluntarily), other ones play Jesus himself.
Some outsiders have criticized them. Representatives from the Catholic church have said Jesus' death need not be repeated and 'Holy Week is not a time' for pain.
But these people don't agree. They are taking their faith to the next level.
