Santa Fe Shooting Suspect Declared Incompetent to Stand Trial

The male suspect charged with capital murder for allegedly killing eight students and two teachers at Santa Fe High School in Texas has been deemed too incompetent to stand trial by a group of three separate psychiatric experts.

This means the suspect will be sent to a mental health facility for an evaluation.

Okay, but was he too incompetent to murder people?

The suspect's defense attorney has not ruled out filing an insanity plea.

In June prosecutors requested that the judge commission a mental health evaluation of the suspect so they can have the option of the insanity plea.

In the state of Texas a person is legally insane if criminal conduct was a result of severe mental disease or defect, so that the person did not know that his conduct was wrong.
