If you're a fan of history & preserving monuments you'll be pleased to learn the people of Lake Charles, Louisiana have decided not to erase evidence of our nation's imperfect past.
The confederate monument will remain on the grounds of the Calcasieu courthouse.
The Calcasieu Police Jury voted 10-4 at a special meeting to leave the South’s Defenders Monument where it stands. Police Jury President Tony Guillory, whose vote acts as a tie breaker when needed, wanted the record to show he was in favor of removing the statue.
A motion was before the police jury to consider moving the monument from the grounds of the courthouse.
A large number of residents spoke prior to the vote.
