Here's What CNN Won't Tell You About Jacob Blake

By now you've heard a lot about the political outrage and violent demonstrations in Kenosha, Wisconsin after news broke that a black man named Jacob Blake was shot by police. Sure, you've heard all about it. The NBA just canceled the rest of their season over this news.

But how much do you actually know about Jacob Blake?

Here are some things you won't be hearing about on CNN.

As Rachel Sandler recently reported:

  • Officers were dispatched to the scene in response to a female caller reporting that her boyfriend was present and wasn’t supposed to be on the property, investigators say; lawyers for Blake’s family say he was “breaking up a fight between two women.”
  • Court records show Blake was charged with third-degree sexual assault, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct related to domestic abuse on July 6.
  • Investigators say the officers attempted to arrest Blake using a taser, but were unsuccessful.
  • When Blake then walked around his car, opened the driver’s side door and leaned forward, Sheskey grabbed onto Blake’s shirt and fired seven times into his back, investigators say.

Even the NYTimes is willing to admit Jacob Blake was not complying with police and he had a deadly weapon.

  • The The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, which is investigating the shooting of Jacob Blake, is offering an initial account of what happened on Sunday.
  • According to DOJ: Kenosha Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of 40th Street after a female caller reported that her boyfriend was present and was not supposed to be on the premises.
  • During the incident, officers attempted to arrest Jacob S. Blake, age 29. Law enforcement deployed a taser to attempt to stop Mr. Blake, however the taser was not successful in stopping Mr. Blake.
  • Mr. Blake walked around his vehicle, opened the driver’s side door, and leaned forward. While holding onto Mr. Blake’s shirt, Officer Rusten Sheskey fired his service weapon 7 times.
  • During the investigation following the initial incident, Mr. Blake admitted that he had a knife in his possession. DCI agents recovered a knife from the driver’s side floorboard of Mr. Blake’s vehicle. A search of the vehicle located no additional weapons.
  • DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to a prosecutor following a complete and thorough investigation.

To review: evidence suggests Jacob Blake was harassing a woman (the same woman who called the cops), armed with a dangerous weapon, refused to comply with officers, was already previously tased (& the tasing didn't stop him), had a lengthy criminal record that includes sexual assault (among other things), and he even admitted to officers he was armed.

Are you starting to understand why CNN won't tell you the full story?
