Texas Democrat Leader Resigns for Racist Slur But Dems Reject Resignation

If a Democrat says something racist nobody seems to mind.

A Texas Democrat party leader from Lamar County has resigned after using a racial slur to describe South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.

Democratic Party Chairman Gary O’Connor of Lamar County in Texas resigned Tuesday after facing backlash for calling Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott an “oreo.”
O’Connor called the senator the racially derogatory term following Scott’s rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s joint address to congress Wednesday for the Republican party.
“I had hoped that Scott might show some common sense, but it seems clear he is little more than an oreo with no real principles,” O’Connor wrote.

But the story doesn't end there. The Democrats in Lamar County aren't bothered by O'Connor's use of a racial slur so they've rejected his resignation.

However, the Lamar County Democratic Party issued its own statement late Tuesday.
“Our local Democrats have taken the last few days to reflect upon this incident,” the organization said, according to MyParisTexas.com.
“After much discussion — especially among our local [b]lack Democrats — we chose not to accept Mr. O’Connor’s resignation.”
The party added that O’Connor “has written a public letter of apology to Sen. Tim Scott, and Lamar County Democrats join him in this apology.”

Apparently Texas Democrats don't mind if their leaders are bigots and racists.
