The NYTimes just reported Simone Biles has left the Team US Women's Gymnastics competition in Tokyo.
Simone Biles faltered badly on her vault, putting the Americans behind against Russia. Then she left the floor briefly before pulling out of the team final.
NBC has announced that Biles has pulled out of the competition. It has not been announced in the arena.
Simone Biles missed the warm-up on bars and has taken her grips off. Whatever is happening with Biles here is going to impact the result of this competition in a big way. With Russia already more than a point ahead of the U.S., things are not looking good for the Americans.
Keep in mind that Simone Biles is far from the best in the world on the uneven bars -- it’s her worst event -- but she did qualify for the bars final. So the team will miss her score, and a lot.
