A couple near Mont Belvieu were trying magnet fishing off a bridge near their home when things went very wrong. If you're not familiar, magnet fishing is a growing hobby where people use a powerful magnet and hook on a rope to see what submerged items they can recover from a body of water. The magnet in this case is capable of picking up more than 1,300 lbs.
KPRC 2 has the full story. Laura Adams and boyfriend John Marshall were magnet fishing at Old River a couple of weeks ago. Adams had the rope tied to her wrist. When a boat comes speeding under the bridge, the magnet grabs it and yanks her off the bridge and into the water. She was knocked unconscious, but Marshall quickly jumped in after her.
Surveillance footage obtained by KPRC 2 gives us a clear look at the incident. It's clear from the video that Adams is lucky to be alive and left with only fairly minor, but painful, injuries. She's bruised and sore and has at least one broken rib. The person driving the boat left the scene before officials could speak to them.
The couple says they're speaking out as a warning for boaters to go slow near docks and bridges.
