The Harris County Attorney's Office got the permanent injunction it was seeking, banning named members of the Blood and Crips street games from a North Harris County community. Assistant County Attorney Celena Vinson says two injunctions granted in the past have reduced the number of gang crimes committed.
“In the last four years since that injunction,” says Vinson, “there are new gang members who are back on this property, and making it difficult for residents and staff and law enforcement.”
The violence-plagued Haverstock apartment complex is located right in the middle of the area called the East Aldine Safety Zone. Keeping the gang member numbers lower helps keep the area under control.
“They're most successful in large groups,” she says. “They're able to accomplish more. And, what they were accomplishing is making life difficult for the law-abiding citizens and residents of this area.”
