We are living in very stupid times.
Over the weekend USA Today said a recently released promotional shirt from the President Trump presidential campaign was strikingly similar to Nazi propaganda.
The shirt depicted an emblem of an American eagle that can commonly be seen on lots of United States of America official departments and organizations, including the Presidential Seal and the official seal of the Speaker of the House.
Critics on social media were quick to compare the shirt to a Nazi emblem, completely ignoring the fact that the American Eagle emblem commonly used by the US government had existed for centuries longer than the one used by Hitler and his military.
On Twitter USA Today said:
Clarification: The claim that Trump 2020 has put out a T-shirt with a symbol similar to a Nazi eagle and is being criticized for it is true. Worth noting, the eagle is a longtime US symbol, too.
In a follow up Tweet they passively pointed out how American government emblems also commonly feature an eagle.
