If you live in or around Houston, Texas you may vividly remember just three days ago when the Mayor of our fine city, Sylvester "insurance fraud" Turner, said anyone caught in public without a mask will be fined $250.
He also said people who have large Thanksgiving parties could be particularly at risk and he urged people to social distance; no large groups, of course, because that would be too dangerous.
It wasn't shocking news. Lots of big cities around America have similar rules. We expect the mayor to say things like this in a Democrat run community.
What was more surprising was that just days later (less than a half a week) Mayor Sylvester Turner made a maskless public appearance with a large group of people (including our city's police chief) for a photo-op at the unveiling of a local police facility generously donated by businessman Tilman Fertitta.
The mayor was also joined by Houston City Councilmember Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, former Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland, and Councilmember Edward Pollard, all proud supporters of the mask mandates, but they also weren't wearing masks at the large gathering during their photo-op.
As far as we can tell nobody was issued a citation for their lack of a mask while posing for the above photo.
Rules for thee, not for me. Right, mayor Turner?
