What should a teacher's priority be?

Teachers unions have been vocal about it not being safe to return to class. Their critics think their priorities are political and not educational.

There are those, like Paula Rinehart with The Federalist, that feel those teachers have their priorities messed up; that if they cared about the kids they'd be demanding schools re-open.

"They would be following the protocol that is out there, and accepting the reality that it is impossible to eliminate risk in this picture," Rinehart explained.

Rinehart says online learning may be convenient. But it doesn't really help kids learn.

"They lose so much in terms of being in a group of children and developing an actual relationship with the teacher," Rinerhart stated, adding that while teachers want to have a risk free work space, that's just not possible. There will always be risk.
