Walker County wildfire is now 100 percent contained

UPDATE: The Walker County wildfire has been declared 100 percent contained.

Firefighters deployed by the Texas A & M Forest Service continue battling the fire on Lost Indian Camp Road off FM 247. FM 247 remains closed in both directions from Pinedale to FM 2989.

The fire has scorched 4,254 acres and is 60% contained as of Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters patrolled the area all night and dozers continue to build a containment line.

The Walker County OEM continues calling for voluntary evacuations within three miles of Lost Indian Camp Road.

Multiple homes are being threatened.

Signs had been posted along IH-45 warning people of smoke and the fire danger.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said there is the possibility the highway could be closed if it was a safety issue, but for now it remains open.

Officials announced Saturday anyone living in the Cedar Ridge subdivision should evacuate. Brimberry Road and the Branded For Christ Church have been evacuated.

People who have evacuated can seek shelter at The Good Shepherd Mission located on Martin Luther King Blvd in Huntsville.
