At least three people died, and six others were injured following a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday (December 16).

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said that officers responded to a call of an active shooter at the school just before 11 a.m. local time. When they arrived, they found multiple victims with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital with various injuries, ranging from minor to life-threatening.

The suspected shooter, who was a female teenager, was found dead when officers arrived. Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene.

Barnes told reporters that the suspect's family has been contacted but would not say if she took her own life.

"As difficult as today is, that's still someone's child that's gone; that's still someone that has to deal with what happened today," Barnes said.

Barnes said that the two deceased victims were a teenager and a teacher at the school. Two of the injured victims are in critical condition, while the other four suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

"Today is a sad, sad day," Barnes said. "Not just for Madison, but for our entire country."

Barnes said that investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.

"I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond," Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers wrote on X.
