Houston Firefighter Hospitalized After Blaze at Abandoned Apartments

A Houston firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion after battling a huge fire at an abandoned apartment complex. The flames broke out just after 10 p.m. Monday, and could be seen from the 610 South Loop near NRG Stadium. The fire drew a large response from the Houston Fire Department.

The District Chief 21 said crews got the flames under control in about an hour. Nobody was found inside, though officials say squatters had been in the complex before.

Crews spent hours dousing hot spots, and investigators are now looking into what sparked the fire. The injured firefighter is expected to be okay.
