Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said at a news conference in Minneapolis that the fatal shooting of a woman "was justified", because "she proceeded to weaponize her vehicle, and she attempted to run a law enforcement officer over."
The 37-year old woman was shot in a residential neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, about a mile from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.
"This appears as an attempt to kill, or to cause bodily harm to agents. An act of domestic terrorism" Noem said.
Noem also noted that immigration enforcement has made over 1,500 arrests in Minnesota in recent weeks.
"We'll let the FBI continue the investigation to get it resolved," she said, adding that the officer was hit by the vehicle, taken to a hospital and released.
