The White House announced that President Donald Trump will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on July 16 in Helsinki, Finland. In a brief statement, the White House said that the "two leaders will discuss relations between the United States and Russia and a range of national security issues."

The summit will happen just a few days after Trump attends a NATO summit being held in Great Britain July 11 and 12.

NATO members appear uncomfortable about the summit, with one diplomat telling Reuters "there is unease about this meeting, just as there is unease about Trump."

"What is he going to say, what is his preparation, is he aware of the symbolism? U.S. containment of Russia is going further than Europe would want ... but if Trump then strikes up a friendship with Putin, it could leave us more in the dark about U.S. policy."

Trump did not mention the summit on Twitter but did mention Russia during a series of tweets attacking the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server.

Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election! Where is the DNC Server, and why didn’t Shady James Comey and the now disgraced FBI agents take and closely examine it? Why isn’t Hillary/Russia being looked at? So many questions, so much corruption!
