Man Shot And Killed After Charging At Police With 'Samurai-Type Swords'

Missouri police shot and killed a 60-year-old man who charged at them while wielding two "samurai-type swords." Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Bill Lowe said they were called to the home of Larry San Nicolas by his family because he was acting violent and irrational.

San Nicolas's relatives said that he was suffering complications related to his diabetes and told the dispatcher about his condition, which was relayed to responding officers. When officers arrived, San Nicolas stepped outside brandishing two swords and ignored officers' commands to drop the weapons.

One officer fired two beanbag rounds at him, but it did not stop him, and when he rushed toward the cops they were forced to open fire.

"He didn't listen to any commands, and for somebody to take a couple of bean bag rounds to his torso and continue on, that shows an amazing desire to continue his threat," Lowe said.

San Nicolas's son, Frank Arceo, told FOX4 that his father struggled to afford the insulin he needed and that his supply ran out before he could buy more. Without his insulin, he became manic and was prone to blackouts. His family could usually deal with his manic outbursts, but this time was different because Larry was armed with swords.

San Nicholas's neighbor, Heather Faudel, said that Larry was "probably the top ten kindest person I've ever met. This is tragic."
