UPDATE: The Firefighter Union's law firm, Baker & Botts LLP, also made a donation to Judge Garrison. However, that donation was made in December 2018, a month before the Judge was assigned to this case. When the firm made the donation they weren't representing the Firefighter's Union. Considering the timing, it's highly unlikely the donation from Baker & Botts had anything to do with Proposition B.
The biggest question still remains - why was the $2500 donated by Andrews & Kurth Texas PAC two days before the case began?
-----
Earlier this week Houstonians were shocked to learn Judge Tanya Garrison ruled Proposition B unconstitutional.
The controversial ruling came on the heels of months of contentious back-and-forth accusations made by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Houston Firefighters Union President Marty Lancton and local city councilmen like Dwight Boykins.
Now in the wake of Judge Garrison's ruling, we've learned the attorneys who worked on that case, Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, made donations for $2500 to Judge Garrison and $25,000 to Mayor Turner's PAC from Andrews & Kurth Texas PAC.
Judge Garrison's donation was made in February 2019, two days before the motion for summary judgement asking Tanya Garrison to declare Prop B unconstitutional.
And let's not forget about this fun photo of Mayor Turner
